Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Miranda Bishara, MD moved to Kansas City in 2000, where she
earned her undergraduate and medical degree in an elite six-year program at the University of
Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She completed an internship in internal medicine at St.
Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City and crossed the state line for her ophthalmology residency at the
University of Kansas Department of Ophthalmology or KU Eye. After finishing her senior year as
Chief Resident, Dr. Bishara went back to Missouri for her fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery
at the Pepose Vision Institute in St. Louis.
Returning to KU Eye and Kansas in 2011, Dr. Bishara is currently an Assistant Professor and
specializes in cataracts, cornea, and refractive surgery. An experienced speaker and presenter at
local and national meetings, she is an active member of several key organizations within the
University, state and nationwide. Since 2012, she has been co-head ophthalmologist for both the
Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals teams.
Passionate about helping those in need, Dr. Bishara served on medical mission trips to Ecuador and
Peru during her residency and fellowship, and continues to seek opportunities to provide surgical
eye care to underserved populations. Locally, she is active in education and promoting vision care,
through the free JayDoc clinics and as a member of the KU Eye Lions Club, which offers quarterly
free clinics and surgeries.
