Mark Edward Gillespie, MD is the senior partner of The Ophthalmology Group, made up of three comprehensive ophthalmologists and two retinal specialists, in Paducah, Kentucky. He has been with the group since 1985 after medical school at Vanderbilt University and residency training at the University of Virginia. He has served as medical director for the group’s dedicated eye surgery center since 1992. Three out of the last five years, he has been voted Paducah’s “Favorite Ophthalmologist” by the readers of the ‘Paducah Sun’ newspaper.
Dr Gillespie is the corneal refractive surgeon for the group. He has performed refractive surgery since the days of radial keratotomy and has been doing LASIK since the late nineties. His current corneal refractive platform is the Alcon FS200 femtosecond laser coupled with the EX500 excimer laser. He also performs refractive cataract surgery and laser assisted cataract surgery with the Alcon LenSx laser. He does a variety of corneal procedures including DSAEK. Other professional interests include the diagnosis and treatment of patients with glaucoma. In addition to standard glaucoma procedures such as trabeculectomy, he also performs the MIGS procedures, iStent implantation and trabectome.
Dr Gillespie is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
