Kishore Raj Pradhan, MD

Kishore Raj Pradhan, MD is the Head of the Refractive Surgery Unit at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is a very soft-spoken person and the safety well-being of his patients is his prime concern.

Dr Pradhan has been a cataract surgeons since 2001, focusing on refractive surgery since 2012. While Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, Dr Pradhan has managed to deliver very high quality service to his country at a very low cost. Almost 20 % of his surgery is performed free of charge, mainly for people who find it difficultly supporting the cost of both family and glasses. The money the department makes supports the hospital financially and funds outreach programs to the poorer, rural mountain areas of Nepal in the form of free cataract surgery. This really motivates Dr Pradhan as a refractive surgeon.

Dr Pradhan did his under graduate study at Shyam Shah Medical College in Rewa, Central India and received his post-graduate Diploma from Kasturba Medical College, South India. He worked for the Lions Eye Care Center in Eastern Rural Nepal and went on to complete his Master’s Degree at the National Institute of Medical Science in Kathmandu. Dr Pradhan next trained at the London Vision Clinic in London with prof Dan Reinstein where he completed a Fellowship in 2010.

Dr Pradhan has been one of the a key contributor to the development of Relex Smile for Myopia, participating successfully in the clincial trail for this procdure and was the first person in the world to do Hyperopic Relex Smile.

Dr Pradhan has perfromed more than 8,000 refractive procedures and about 30,000 cataract surgeries so far.
