David W. Shoemaker, MD

David W. Shoemaker, M.D. founded Center For Sight with the mission of bringing clear vision to life through caring and trusting relationships and the unending pursuit of excellence in eye care. Having performed over 100,000 cataract surgeries, Dr. Shoemaker devotes his entire practice to one discipline: Lens replacement surgery.

Center For Sight was established by Dr. Shoemaker in 1986 and has grown to seven office locations spanning three counties in Southwest Florida. Although Center For Sight has expanded significantly, Dr. Shoemaker’s approach to patient care has remained the same. Dr. Shoemaker strives to deliver unsurpassed surgical results with compassion and care, utilizing the safest, most advanced technology available.

Dr. Shoemaker has been consistently honored as one of America’s “Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly Medical and has been named a “Top Doctor” by U.S. News and World Report. In 2016, he was included on the Premier Surgeon 300, and locally, Dr. Shoemaker was voted “Best Ophthalmologist” within his community and recently received the “Greater Good” Award from 941CEO Magazine for his leadership in Mission Cataract.

Dr. Shoemaker is committed to giving back to the community and has participated in Mission Cataract for over 20 years. Mission Cataract is an annual event where Center For Sight surgeons and staff members donate their time, expertise and resources to perform over 100 free cataract surgeries for those in need. Under Dr. Shoemaker’s leadership, the practice has performed over 1,000 surgeries to date. In 2012, Dr. Shoemaker established the Center For Sight Foundation in order to continue his 20-year commitment of providing sight-saving surgeries to people without the means to pay.
