Suphi Taneri, MD is the Director of the Center for Refractive Surgery Muenster, Germany and one of the owners of the Eye Department at the St. Francis Hospital, Muenster, Germany. Dr. Taneri also serves as a lecturer and scientific co-worker of H Burkhard Dick, MD at the Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany.
Prior to founding the Center of Refractive Surgery together with his partners from the Eye Department at the St. Francis Hospital, Dr. Taneri did a sub-specialty training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery under the world-renowned mentorship of Dimitri T Azar, MD at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, MA, USA.
Dr. Taneri serves as a trainer of the Refractive Surgery Committee of the German Ophthalmological Society. He teaches ophthalmic surgeons worldwide during instructional courses at major conferences advanced techniques in the surgical correction of ametropia, cataract surgery including premium intraocular lenses, and in corneal cross-linking. Dr. Taneri’s clinic has served for years as a reference and educational center for laser vision correction for Technolas, Bausch & Lomb, Inc.
Dr. Taneri is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Other professional memberships include the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the German Society of IOL-Implantation and Refractive Surgery, the German Ophthalmological Society, the Turkish Ophthalmological Society, and the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery.
Dr. Taneri is active in clinical research, has developed two micro-surgical instruments and holds two patents on surgical devices. He has performed surgery, taught new surgical procedures and delivered lectures on three continents. He has over 250 scientific publications, abstracts and presentations to his credit, including more than 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts, over 150 lectures and over a dozen book chapters on cataract and refractive surgery and corneal cross-linking.
Dr. Taneri has received numerous awards and distinctions for excellence in ophthalmology. He is co-editor of two scientific journals, the Journal of Ophthalmology and BioMed Research International. He is co-editor emeritus of the Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology. He is also a regular reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Ophthalmology, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Der Ophthalmologe, Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde, Saudi Medical Journal, European Journal of Ophthalmology and Clinical Ophthalmology. Dr. Taneri also serves as consultant for several ophthalmic companies.
