Matthias Maus, MD

Matthias Maus, MD is one of the most experienced LASIK and KAMRA surgeons worldwide. Born on in Krefeld, he studied medicine in Cologne, Vienna, Stellenbosch, and Harvard and completed his clinical education in Dortmund.

In 1991 he settled down as an operating ophthalmologist in the center of Cologne. As a leader in the field of refractive laser surgery, together with Dr. Thomas Heiser, he founded the Eye Center Maus + Heiser, to offer patients the entire spectrum of refractive surgery. In 2007 he took over the sole management of the center, which now operates under sehkraft Augenzentrum Maus.

Dr. Maus is one of the first ophthalmologists in Germany to devote himself very early and intensively to refractive laser surgery, which he can now draw on the experience of more than 35,000 successful LASIK operations. Since 1992 Dr. Maus has been active worldwide as an international LASIK trainer. In this role, he trains ophthalmologists both theoretically and practically in various methods of refractive laser surgery.

In 1992 he founded Visumed AG as the first – and to date the largest – chain of laser eye centers in Germany. Dr. Maus was a member of the Management Board of Visumed AG from 2000 to 2007, until the sale of Visumed AG to Optical Express in 2007. Also in 1992, Dr. Maus was a founding member of the Commission on Refractive Surgery (KRC), which sets and controls quality and safety standards for refractive surgery and is responsible for the continuous training of your users.

From 1996 to 2003 he was a member of an international research group involved in the development of the most advanced laser system, the WaveLight Allegretto. The data collected at our center contributed significantly to approval by the United States FDA, and Dr. Maus’ passion for continuous research allows sehkraft Augenzenturm permanent access the latest technologies.

Since 2003 Dr. Maus continues to be a world ambassador for Alcon / Wavelight Laser Technologie AG while also seated on a Medical Advisory Board of the charitable organization “Vision for the World”, whose goal is improved treatment of serious eye diseases in developing countries in cooperation with medical professionals and industrial partners. From 2005 to 2009 he was Medical Adviser to Real Eyes AG.

Matthias Maus, MD regularly holds scientific lectures at the most important international congresses and is a member of many German and international specialist societies.
