Ali Arif, MD is a PGY4 ophthalmology resident serving patients across the greater Philadelphia and Trenton areas. A Houstonian shaped by a family with deep roots in Pakistan, he came to medicine with a straightforward ideal: physicians need to lead society forward in selfless practice, and spread care to as many people as they can. He practices because sight is foundational to how people engage with everything, and a skilled surgeon can restore that.
Patients can expect a surgeon who is deliberate before he is fast, and methodical before he commits. He plans carefully, considers every variable, and builds a clear picture before any intervention. When unexpected decisions are required in the operating room, that same groundwork allows him to respond with precision rather than reaction.
What draws him to refractive surgery is the directness of its impact. Refractive surgery refines and indeed restores the ways people work, parent, and experience daily life. That same principle guides his longer-term ambition: to extend access to high-quality refractive and comprehensive eye care into communities where it remains out of reach, including in Pakistan through collaboration with Al-Shifa Eye Hospital.
Dr. Arif holds an MD and is pursuing fellowship training in anterior segment surgery, with interests spanning cornea, glaucoma, MIGS, and refractive techniques. He is the founder of Ophthordle.org, a daily ophthalmology word game modeled on Wordle, built to make ophthalmic education more approachable. He also founded an ophthalmic products company during residency producing 3D-printed clinical tools named ForgeOptic, the first of several entrepreneurial projects he intends to develop alongside his career.
Outside medicine, he codes, 3D prints, and spends as much time as possible with his wife and son. He reads and games when the schedule allows.
