Charlie Chai, MD

Charlie Chai, MD is currently a 2nd year resident at Vanderbilt Eye Institute where he is putting forth his best efforts in training to take great care of patients and discover new ways to improve their visual experience. Thus far during his brief time at Vanderbilt, Dr. Chai won the Consultant of the Year Award, which is given for outstanding dedication and service to patients and staff amongst all consulting services to the Emergency Department. He is also developing a hands-on surgical curriculum to help residents improve their operative ability in light of the challenges caused by the COVID pandemic.

Dr. Chai also has extensive medical research experience and played pivotal roles in the development of novel therapeutics and vaccines, the results of which have been published in leading medical journals and textbooks. Dr. Chai is a native of California and graduated with high honors and merit scholarships from the University of California, San Diego, and George Washington University. He is a member of honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Psi Chi, and Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. Chai is excited to take advantage of the many opportunities over the final 2 years of his training that will enable him to help his patients enjoy their best possible sight and improve the delivery of eye care services.
