Jason Alvarez, MD is a third-year ophthalmology resident planning to practice comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract, and refractive surgery at Beach Eye Care in Virginia Beach starting August 2021.
Dr. Alvarez grew up in Manila, Philippines, and subsequently moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue higher education. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami where he served as President of the Ophthalmology Interest Group.

Between his third and fourth year of medical school, he completed a year of ophthalmology research at the National Institutes of Health through the Medical Research Scholars Program and presented his work at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He completed his internship and residency training at the Krieger Eye Institute / Sinai Hospital of Baltimore where he also served as chief resident during his senior year.
His professional memberships include the Refractive Surgery Alliance, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology, and the Tidewater Ophthalmology Organization.
Dr. Alvarez aims to provide the most compassionate care to his patients and enjoys connecting with them on a personal level. In his spare time, he pursues other interests including guitar, drums, basketball, billiards, CrossFit, and volunteering at church. He also enjoys traveling and spending time with family, his fiancée Payton, and their dog Ernie.
