Alison Chiu, FRANZCO, PhD, MBBS (Hons), BMedSc (Hons I), Grad Dip Refractive Surgery is an Ophthalmic Surgeon with special interest in cataract surgery including refractive and complex cases. She is also an expert in refractive vision correction. She has contributed to the success of over 40,000 laser vision corrections performed by surgeons at one of Australia’s leading refractive surgical centres. She is one of only two Principal Surgeons since it’s inception in 2002, having served that role since 2014.
Dr Chiu completed her medical degree with Honours at the University of Sydney. She also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science and following a dedicated research year, graduated with First Class Honours. Dr Chiu has completed a PhD from the University of Sydney, supported by prestigious scholarships at University College London and Cambridge University.
Her ophthalmology training was undertaken at Sydney Eye Hospital, with further subspecialty training at Macquarie University Hospital, including an academic qualification in Refractive Surgery. She was the Principal Surgeon at Perfect Vision Laser Correction, one of Australia’s leading refractive surgery practices from 2014 to 2020. Dr Chiu has a long history of medical teaching, and has been teaching cataract surgery, including complex techniques to trainees since 2013. She is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Education at Harvard University.
