James Davis, MD, MBA, is a PGY-2 ophthalmology resident at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. His journey into ophthalmology began well before medical school, when he worked as an ophthalmic scribe and saw firsthand the life-changing joy patients experienced after surgery. These early patient encounters solidified his desire to dedicate his life to restoring vision and improving quality of life through refractive surgery. For Dr. Davis, few things are more rewarding than helping others see the world more clearly.
Patients who meet Dr. Davis can expect a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative experience. He believes in building genuine relationships with his patients and taking the time to understand what matters most to them. His goal is to educate and empower every patient, helping them make informed decisions that align with their values and goals. While still early in his surgical training, Dr. Davis is deeply committed to mastering refractive techniques that will one day allow him to offer patients more freedom from glasses and contact lenses.
What excites Dr. Davis most about refractive surgery is its potential to transform lives. He is continually inspired by the innovation in the field—from laser technology to advanced diagnostics—and he is motivated by the ability to restore independence, enhance daily function, and improve how people engage with the world around them. Each day, he finds purpose in guiding patients toward better vision and greater confidence in their lives.
Dr. Davis earned his medical degree from Texas A&M University and completed his internal medicine internship at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, New York. He is currently completing his ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech, where he is developing a broad skill set in medical and surgical eye care. He has published research in neuro-ophthalmology, including work completed during a research fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute. He is eager to explore the full spectrum of refractive surgery and is not currently limited to a specific subspecialty focus.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Davis treasures time with his growing family. He and his wife have been married for over a decade and are the proud parents of two children—with a third on the way. A Utah native and the youngest of six, Dr. Davis grew up skiing, playing baseball, and learning to land backflips on the slopes. Today, he enjoys running, listening to audiobooks, and making pizza with his wife. He prioritizes his life around God, family, and ophthalmology.
