Matthew M. Kruger, MD

Matthew M. Kruger, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship trained specialist in cataract surgery, cornea and laser vision correction. Dr. Kruger has extensive experience in cataract surgery, refractive surgery including LASIK and PRK, corneal transplantation and partial corneal transplantation techniques such as DSAEK, DMEK, and DALK. He will be providing his patients with comprehensive eye care using the latest medical and surgical technology and techniques.

Dr. Kruger grew up in the Pacific Northwest before heading to the Northeast where he graduated from Dartmouth College. He was a Presidential Scholar and received the Howard Hughes Grant for undergraduate research at Dartmouth. After graduation, he spent a year volunteering at a medical mission hospital in West Africa and two years performing research in the Department of Physiology at Tufts University before starting his medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He then moved to Texas for his ophthalmology residency training at UT Southwestern Medical Center, the largest ophthalmology program in the U.S., where he served as the clinic and surgery chief.

After finishing residency, Dr. Kruger spent an additional year at UT Southwestern completing a fellowship in cornea, advanced cataract/lens replacement surgery, and laser refractive surgery. He performs all the latest types of corneal transplantation including DSAEK, DMEK, and DALK. Dr. Kruger practiced in the Boston area for over one year before coming to Denver.

Dr. Kruger’s interests include no stitch small incision cataract surgery with topical anesthesia without using needles, complex cataract surgery, dry eye treatment, refractive surgery, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and the treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Kruger is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Kruger enjoys spending time with his wife Jen, skiing, hiking, biking, traveling and learning new languages. He speaks French and Spanish and volunteers his time at the Stout Street Eye Clinic serving the homeless population of Denver.
