Ivey L. Thornton, MD

Ivey Thornton M.D., trained in Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville after receiving her medical degree at the University of Alabama. She then completed a one-year neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard School of Medicine. Dr. Thornton then pursued further advanced surgical training in cataract and refractive surgery at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. She has had a successful practice in Ohio since 2011.

Dr. Thornton then moved to Omaha with her husband, who is also an Ophthalmologist, and their four young children, and is currently working at Nebraska Medicine Truhlsen Eye Institute & completing a 1-year certificate program with the PHYSICAON CEO course at Kellogg School of Management under Executive Education. She is active in clinical research having been awarded grants from the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmology (CLAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in the past. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals of Ophthalmology and presented her work at national and international eye meetings. Her practice focus is in cataract refractive surgery.

Having been raised in Hong Kong as an expatriate, Dr. Thornton has a passion for global eye care and serves with her husband in charitable eye surgery ministries in China & Peru.
