Lee Holland, FRANZCO Cert LRS MBBS BAppSci (Optom) is a Cornea, Cataract, Refractive, and Glaucoma surgeon at the Queensland Eye Institute.

Dr Holland grew up in rural Queensland and completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Optometry) at Queensland University of Technology. He enjoyed 5 years as a community optometrist before completing his medical degree at the University of Queensland.

Following completion of Specialist Ophthalmology training in Queensland, he was awarded the Topham Scholarship and moved with his family to the UK to undertake two prestigious fellowships. He completed a Fellowship in Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery at the Bristol Eye Hospital after completing a Glaucoma Fellowship at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Whilst overseas he completed the UK Royal College of Ophthalmologists examination for Certification in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS).

His particular interests include cataract, corneal and refractive surgery. He offers a comprehensive spectrum of anterior segment surgery including all types of corneal transplants, corneal cross-linking, pterygium excision, and glaucoma surgery including Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS).

He is a QUT University Medalist and has several publications in peer-reviewed journals. He was the recipient of multiple awards during his bachelor’s degrees including the John Rendle-Short Prize, the Elsie Butler Wilkinson Memorial Prize, the Don Noak Prize, the Kenneth B Ward Memorial Prize amongst others. He has been awarded for Recognition of Outstanding Teaching by UQ students at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and was a recognized RCOphth Portfolio assessor for Ophthalmology trainees whilst in the UK. As an Optometrist he volunteered on several occasions with the Vietnam Vision Project and the International Centre for Eyecare in assisting with the delivery of eyecare in underprivileged communities.

Outside of Ophthalmology Dr Holland enjoys spending time with his family. His interests include traveling, hiking, cycling, swimming, and playing music with his wife and two children.
