Ryan Patel, OD, FAAO is an Associate Clinical Assistant Professor and ASC Director at the University of Houston College of Optometry in Houston Texas. This appointment began in 2018, after honing several years experience managing optometric services for a multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in North Carolina.
Dr Patel provides and supervises the pre- and post-operative education for third- and fourth-year optometry students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Patel also manages the clinical operations of the ASC in various departments including retina, glaucoma, and anterior segment. Additionally, he facilitates optometric co-management network programs.
From 2016-2019, Dr. Patel served as the Clinical Director for nJoy Vision at UHCO providing candidate selections, education and pre- and post-operative care for surgical procedures including LASIK, PRK, advanced surface ablation, refractive lens exchange, keratoconus treatment with intrastromal corneal ring
segments and corneal collagen cross-linking clinical trial evaluation, among other types.
Dr. Patel’s clinical interests include the surgical management of the anterior and posterior segment, refractive surgery, keratoconus, and specialty contact lens fitting. Additional research interests include intraocular lenses, aphakic aberrometry, and various applications of corneal collagen cross-linking.
Dr. Patel is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and holds memberships with the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Patel’s interests include golfing, spending time with friends and family along with listening to live music.
