Mark Mugavin, MD, MPH

Mark Mugavin, MD, PhD is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2014 and completed his residency with the University of Louisville Department of Ophthalmology in 2018.

Above all else, I want to have a positive impact on the patients I serve which is what drew me to Ophthalmology in the first place. It’s such a blessing to be able to help patients with their vision and guide them in the decision making process. Getting out of glasses and contacts makes sense for so many people and I am energized to get the message out about how far the technology has progressed.

Patients should expect to meet a surgeon who will listen and highlight the refractive technology in a way that makes it easy to understand. They will work with a someone who is down to earth and able to execute a plan that values the patients input.

Refractive Surgery is easily the most fun aspect of practicing Ophthalmology. I have even go as far as providing LASIK on my own family members because I believe in the technology and impact so much.

Outside of Refractive Surgery, I also have a passion for improving Ophthalmic Education in the Medical Community having created the online lecture series “Ophtho 101” which has generated over 25,000 views and is part of the established curriculum for the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
